Hokusai "Tago Bay near Ejiri on the Tokaido"

Tago no Ura is famous as the place with the best view of Mt. Fuji, and is mentioned in the Manyoshu (Anthology of Myriad Leaves). 
This painting is said to be a view from offshore of Yoshiwarajuku on the Tokaido Highway. By depicting fishing boats and waves in the near background, Hokusai has created a more impressive view of Mt.This is a magnificent and solid landscape painting typical of Hokusai.
